T. and I noticed a lot of feltmaking while in Argentina. I bought several pins that were felt rolls and then cut and we also met an artist who made profoundly beautiful felted goods. Like a complete moron I only bought one small thing from her. What the hell was I thinking?
When in Uruguay I found a store with coat that I came close to purchasing. Now, of course, I am kicking myself for not getting it. It was white, which is why I didn't buy it. And, next to impossible to clean. But it was a long jacket and it fit like a glove and it was splendidly beautiful and it was felted in the most delicate and profoundly circular and complex way. And $300. Hell if I am not still thinking of it.
While in Argentina T. bought a bunch of crude wool that was so very soft to the touch. I could have eaten it. She is very interested in the ancient felting process and I can't wait to see what she does with it. (She used to be a fashion designer and now crafts all her own shoes--in addition to also being my hairdresser). She found this link to a Martha Stewart video about a felting exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of Design, one of my favorite places in the city (they have a whole exhibit about buttons and how they changed the world!). I look forward to going.
